Welcome to service at the Area level!
Vermont Area World Service Committee (AWSC)
The VT Area World Service Committee (AWSC) develops and serves the Area’s group conscience, meeting regularly between the semi-annual Area Assemblies.
All AWSC members are asked to attend all committee meetings, if possible, in order to create a full committee to listen for and create that informed group conscience and to do the Area’s business. When attendance is not possible, members are asked to send a report to the Area Chair to fulfill Tradition 9 (“directly responsible to those they serve”). Expenses such as driving costs are reimbursed by the Area.
Members serve for a three-year session (One Day at a Time!), elected at a Fall Assembly, with terms beginning January 1st. Vacant positions that occur mid-session will be filled if possible at the next Assembly.
You can find out about Area-level service positions here on this website (see links below) and in the Al-Anon Service Manual. Responsibilities are further decided by the current Committee and by the members’ own vision and understanding of their Higher Power’s will for them.
Past members are often available to support new members. When serving at the Area level, it is helpful to have previous service experience at the group and/or district level and to have a service sponsor. “Tolerance, responsibility, flexibility, and vision” are helpful leadership qualities. (Concept 9, p. 202, Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual).
If you are interested in expanding your program and participation, please contact your District Representative, Group Representative, or any member of the Area World Service Committee; use this website’s “Contact Us” page; send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org; or come to an Assembly!
